The High Commission of Malaysia in Bandar Seri Begawan held a Jalur Gemilang Flag-Raising Ceremony to mark Malaysia’s 69th National Day, themed “Malaysia MADANI, Kesejahteraan Dinikmati.” More than 150 Malaysians from different backgrounds attended the annual celebration on the morning of 31 August, 2026.

The programme began with the raising of the Jalur Gemilang, accompanied by Negaraku, followed by the singing of patriotic songs, Jalur Gemilang and Aku Berjanji. This was followed by the Rukun Negara Pledge led by Deputy Vice President Conrad Mosidin and an address by His Excellency Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam. In his address, His Excellency reminded Malaysians living abroad to appreciate the sacrifices of the nation’s independence fighters and to continue upholding the values and legacy of Malaysia’s independence.

PWM President Azlan Ahmad said the celebration was a meaningful opportunity for Malaysians in Brunei to come together and celebrate their national identity. “National Day reminds us that although we live and work away from Malaysia, we remain connected by our shared heritage, values and love for our country. It is important for us to keep this spirit alive and pass it on to the younger generation.”

The event concluded with a refreshment and fellowship session, bringing together the Malaysian community in Brunei to celebrate Malaysia’s 69th National Day in a spirit of unity and friendship.
