Over 150 members and friends of the Malaysian community in Brunei gathered on Sunday evening, 29th June 2025, at the Annajat Complex for a vibrant celebration of Tadau Ka’amatan & Gawai Dayak, two of Malaysia’s most treasured cultural festivals.
The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, the Deputy High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, Puan Ezira Mahadi, who commended the community’s efforts in keeping cultural traditions alive and fostering unity among Malaysians abroad.
Guests attended in traditional Sabah and Sarawak attire, bringing colour and authenticity to the evening’s festivities. The highlights of the event included a sumptuous dinner, traditional performances by community members, a Best Traditional Costume Contest, and a lively lucky draw session that added excitement and joy.
In welcoming address, Vice President of Sports and Recreation cum the Chairperson of the organizing committee, Ms Cecilia Maksimon shared: “In the spirit of ‘muhibah,’ which signifies goodwill, unity, and harmony, today’s celebration is a testament to the rich diversity that makes up our Malaysian community here in Brunei. It is a reminder that despite our multicultural backgrounds, we are united by shared values and a common heritage. The Kaamatan and Gawai Dayak festivals symbolize the beauty of our traditions and the importance of preserving and promoting our cultural heritage.”
The Tadau Ka’amatan & Gawai Dayak celebration offered more than just entertainment — it served as a meaningful gathering that strengthened ties within the Malaysian diaspora in Brunei, particularly those from Sabah and Sarawak. It was a joyful evening filled with pride, tradition, and togetherness.
